was inspired to paint this scene, because as a child I was fascinated
with elevators and played around them.
When I was older I finally got permission to climb up inside one. The perspective was awe-inspiring and the pigeons flying from their roost gave me a sense of expansiveness and freedom, similar to what I find at the tops of mountains.
As these symbols of our prairie life are quickly disappearing, it was important for me to share this perspective of grain elevators with others.
