Cranbrook Artist Gains International Recognition

For the fourth time in five years, local artist Joseph
Cross, PSC, PSA, is once again being showcased in the widely acclaimed
"International Artist" magazine.
The eight page article, "The Contemplation Factor", appears in the April/May
edition (#42) of the magazine. The featured painting is titled
"Entering the Cool", an
oil painting that is 48" x 36" and is currently in the Webster Galleries
in Calgary, Alberta.
The notice of his being featured in the prestigious magazine came as quite
a surprise. He was invited to submit an article to the magazine
some time ago, not knowing if it would ever be used. The magazine
has featured his artwork in other sections such as "Master Painters of
the World: Canada Showcase", and a seven page feature article on
pastels.
International Artist magazine , with a world-wide distribution, is
the premier magazine for artists, by artists. "In each issue we
take you inside the studios of the world's best artists. They tell you
the thought process behind their creative methods and reveal their painting
techniques. For beginners, intermediate and professional artists, our
art magazines give you valuable lessons and art instruction on techniques".
Cross has lived in Cranbrook since 1974. A self taught artist, Cross did
not start his professional art career until 1978. Through his art Cross
says he conveys perspectives on the way we look at ourselves, our environment,
and our lifestyles. Cross works mainly in oils and pastels. He is a Signature
Member of both the Pastel Society of Canada and the Pastel Society of
America. He is also an enthusiastic art instructor and mentors aspiring
new artists in his studio. Cross exhibits his work in the Rocky Mountain
ArtisaNiche Gallery in Cranbrook, Avens Gallery in Canmore, Webster Galleries
in Calgary, Kennedy Gallery in Grand Cayman Island, Eklektos Gallery in
Sandpoint, ID, Willow Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ, and Alley Katz Gallery
in Seaside, Oregon.
