Trout Unlimited Canada is pleased to announce the selection for 2007
Artist of the Year as “Just
Me and the Morning”, a pastel painting, by Joseph Cross.
This piece was chosen from among over 40 submissions received from
across Canada that ranged in size, theme, content and medium. Mr. Cross’s
stunning pastel piece was chosen for its vibrant colours and its depiction
of a serene river scene.
Born in Saskatchewan in 1949, Joseph Cross has lived in Cranbrook since
1974. His professional career in art started in 1978. Through his
art, Joseph conveys perspectives on the way we look at ourselves, our
environment, and our lifestyles. A self-taught artist, Joseph works
in several mediums and shares his love of art through the joy of teaching
others. His work can be seen at Webster Galleries in Calgary, Rocky
Mountain ArtisaNiche in Cranbrook and Galerie D’Art Yvon Desgagnes in
Baie St-Paul, Quebec.
“Just Me and the Morning” is the 16th selection for Trout Unlimited
Canada’s Artist of the Year. This annual competition is open to any
Canadian artist, and comes with a prize of $2,000. The original piece
is sold at the annual Conservation Dinner in Calgary each spring. A
limited-edition set of prints is produced and are sold at TUC’s fundraisers
